How to remove content from appearing in online searches

  1. Information & advice
  2. Step by step guides
  3. Removing content from search providers

Why might you need to do this?

If non-consensual intimate content cannot be removed from the source website where it has been posted, some search providers offer tools to remove the content from search results. While this does not remove the content from the internet entirely, it can help prevent people from finding it through some search engines. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to request removal from Google and Bing.

Removing content from search engines does not delete it from the internet. If possible, always attempt to have the content removed from the website where it was posted.

Removing Non-Consensual Intimate Content from Bing Search Results

Bing is a participating platform in StopNCII.org, a tool designed to help prevent and remove the non-consensual sharing of intimate images online. If you have hashed your intimate content using the StopNCII.org tool, these images will also be detected and blocked from Bing searches.

Step 2: Choose the type of concern

  • Select "Tell us about your concern" and choose:
  • Select "Exposed personal information"
  • Select "Non-consensual intimate imagery"

Step 3: Submit the request

  • This form accepts content that:
    • Contains a sexual depiction of you alone or with someone else.
    • Was distributed, created, or generated without your consent.
    • Was created when you were over the age of 18.
