Racially Minoritised Women’s Experiences of Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence and Reporting to the Police
This research project seeks to understand racially minoritised women’s experiences of technology-facilitated sexual violence and reporting to the police. Technology-facilitated sexual violence includes – but is not limited to – online harassment, cyberstalking and the non-consensual sharing of images. The project is concerned with the specific experience of racially minoritised women; the extent to which the abuse and responses were racialised, their help-seeking process, whether or not this included the police, and the barriers faced by those who chose not to make a formal report.
Online interviews and an online survey will be open to racially minoritised victim-survivors till October 2025.
The research is funded through the Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre and ethically approved by the University of York. Dr Alishya Dhir is based at a UK think tank, the Police Foundation, and completed her PhD at Durham University in 2023.
